for tax year 2022, I have a client thas over 200 w2g - gambling winning. I listed all the winnings on an excel sheet and summarized the total. Can I overide the w2g field amount and enter the grand total from my excel sheet. I do not want to enter 200 W2Gs since there was no federal taxes taken out.
Is there some where I can insert attachment?
thanks,
John
I just total them up by casino and make a single W2g entry for each casino, I dont attach anything.
If it were a paper filed return all IRS would see is a total amount of gambling winnings, so dont overthink it.

But if paper filed the IRS would also see all of the attached W-2g forms that have withholding.
I don't encounter these much but folks who do just seem to aggregate them without any ill effects. I would consider entering separately anything showing withholding but that may depend on the dollars involved.
Maybe I misread, I thought it said there was no withholding.

Well, looky there. Words and sentences and everything. It would probably be helpful if I read *all* the words next time!
thanks for everybody's help. I try overiding the w2g anount and placed a total amount but I got rejected by proseries when I try to efile. Can I leave w2 blank and use the gambling amount other than w2g? i have about 200 w2g. Even if I summarize by payor, that is still alot of work. what does the IRS see on there end when I efile the return? do they see detail w2g amounts versus other gambling amount not w2g?
thanks,
John
As long as you can get the total gambling winnings on the return to match up with the total gambling winnings reported to IRS, it will never be an issue.
Bu you shouldnt need to Override anything, just enter the total of them all on 1 W2g worksheet. All that extra junk at the bottom that says its required for EFiling, I just complete with the info from one of the single W2gs (but Ive even left it blank and it EFiles just fine)
What exactly did the rejection say?
