Can the requirement for a spouse's SSN/ITIN be overridden without getting the Federal MFS income tax return rejected? A MFS US citizen is living permanently in a foreign country and is married to a foreign citizen, living together. The MFS US citizen meets all the requirements for the Stimulus checks. Proseries (IRS?) requires the foreign spouse's name and a ITIN number. The MFS US citizen would prefer not to file for an ITIN with the IRS. Is the ITIN required for ProSeries, and is there a way to file MFS without the spouse ITIN number?

Think it was said you could e-file federal by leaving the NRA spouse's ITIN blank and disabling error checking. But this may not work for states.
