I've been preparing this clients taxes for the last 6 years. He lives in PA but works in NY. This year he received his W2 with NY state and PA wages in box 16. This is first time it showed both states. Previous years it's only been NY wages in box 16.
NY wage is 117000, PA wage is 58000 and Federal box 1 is 117000. When preparing his PA it shows 175000 of gross income. Am I missing something here? Because that does not look correct to me. Is the W2 correct? Do I adjust it elsewhere?
Thanks in advance
There is a form in the PA ProSeries program that allows you to show which PA wages are taxable and which wages are not. You should unclick the PA Wage line to not show that as taxable. By doing that, you will achieve the total wages being taxed to PA and not the combined amounts.
Not sure why this is the first year it shows PA wage. Nothing changed for your client?
Thank you. Will look for that form. He has been with this company for 25 years now. They were bought out by a corporation based out of Tennessee 2 years ago. Thats the only thing. Strange that it would be different this year though.
It worked! Thanks again for your help!!
