    Form 8879

I know Form 8879 is an IRS form regulated by them, but can we not get the year put back on the 8879 like it used to be? It's on the 8453 for Alabama but not on the federal at all. It's such a pain to have to thumb thru a return just to find out what year the 8879 pertains to when it could easily be returned to the form in plain sight. Is there any way to make this happen? Used to it was just under the revision towards the upper right hand corner & I would think this would be the most logical place for it. I guess it's like anything else this year...it can't be done easily. Nothing is easy when it comes to the IRS & Intuit.

If it’s on AL and not the fed I believe that’s how the entities do their forms and Proseries is following suit.

While it is not as easy to see as the old IRS versions, it is on the form.

Look at the form where it says "Part I   Tax Return Information -- Tax Year Ending December 31st, _________"

As a side note, the 8879s have been printing this way for a few years now.  I kinda thought people were used to them by now.

Hi @nickdrake For suggestions and improvements like this, the ProSeries Idea Exchange is the most impactful place to share your feedback. When ideas are submitted there, other tax professionals can vote on them, which helps our development teams prioritize and plan future enhancements. Thanks for sharing and for being a part of the community.

That is scary because that has ZERO impact on anything.  ZERO.  Personally, I find it insulting when somebody suggests posting there because that "Idea Exchange" is basically a lie.

I suspect it is the Marketing Team that runs that Exchange just so customers have a feel-good feeling of thinking they contributed something.

We even had a nice developer stop by a ways back asking for things that could be improved ... he DIDN'T EVEN KNOW that the Idea Exchange existed.

Plus it is an IRS Form. The form does not have a year on it anymore.

Software developers have to have their forms approved by IRS.

Even if ProSeries was inclined to add the year, and even if the Idea Exchange amounted to anything, IRS would not approve this.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Speaking from experience, I have to say the Idea Exchange worked wonders for my old favorite 5227.  Just ask the other folks that posted there asking for the form if you don't believe me.
