Filing a 1065 where all 4 shareholders are foreigners with no social security number nor applied for one. Tried to file an electronic extension but system is asking for at least two of the partners to have SS or applied for. Contacted Proseries for guidance and agent said that because there are no S/H with SS need to file hard copies and not electronically. When asked what document I need to print to file via regular mail was not able to assist. Two questions:
1. Have you ever encountered this situation and how did you solve it?
2. If in fact extension needs to be filed with hard copies, does that mean that the actual return also needs to be filed the same way?
Any and all suggestions are welcome as is my first time working with foreigners S/H
If the extension needs to be paper filed so will the tax return.
Can the foreign partners get ITINs?
Since they are foreign, be aware that federal, and maybe state, tax probably needs to be withheld for them.
Hello and thanks for your response. No, at this time they do not want to apply for an ITIN. Within the 1065 are there any other forms that need to be completed by them being foreigners?
