EIC

ProSeries is saying an 80 year old with non-taxed social security and $1700 in earned income qualifies for EIC.

I had to check the box in the info worksheet that says "Taxpayer has been notified by IRS that EIC cannot be claimed in 2021".    Should I have had to do this or am I missing something?

Youre missing something.

They took away the EITC age cap, senior citizens with low earned income qualify now.

So appreciate your quick replies.

When I did the worksheet on the IRS.gov/EIC, it said because of Adjusted Gross Income limit, he didn't qualify for EIC????

"I had to check the box in the info worksheet"

Is that true? Or, you are trying to bypass it? I would uncheck that, if it doesn't apply.

I went to IRS.GOV/EIC again and entered my numbers as they say.  I added Social Security from Box 5 as they instructed.  They don't say to add on "taxable" Social Security.  They have an adjustment line, so I backed out the SS on that line, and if finally agrees with what you said.  He gets the EIC!!

Thanks for your patience.
