I have a return that was rejected because social security put a lock on SS# due to death. I had the date of death on the return. Anyone know why this would be rejected?
I've had one go through and one fail so far this year. All I can see is that on the fail the person was deceased longer so it must be how long it takes for social security to lock the account number.
So, we had a client that this happened to last year and she is STILL dealing with it. Social security had her SSN as deceased. She had to paper file multiple times in response to IRS notices. She went to SS and they removed the lock on their end, but IRS said SS still had it locked. She still hasn't gotten her refund as of a week ago. She contacted her congressman who said this has happened to thousands of people and told her to get an extension until they can try to get this resolved. I'm so sorry for your client.
@AimeeZ Blame it on technology?…. Is she over 150 years old? Did she have a green or gold card prior to her reported demise? Careful not to fall through the ice.
