Elderly client called to ask if she needed to cash the check before Biden is inaugurated. She was told by her relative to hurry because the checks may not be good after today. OMG!😵

The three little words that tax practitioners most hate to hear:
I. Was. Told.
Unless the relative was a barber, tell her not to listen.
As a side note, was that relative taking a tour of the Capitol building a couple of weeks ago?
Another craze thing
A single client received a check $600 two weeks ago. Today IRS send him another debit card for $600.What do you do with the second check?
Do they have a dependent child (or did they in 2019?)?
I'd make sure that debit card actually has $600 on it first. Then send the check back..... I guess.
Trying to post this again -- local paper did a story on a similar situation, but of course didn't ask your question, about a dependent.
Yum; my tax dollars at work.
