Client not OK with Sch C Outcome of Return

I handle accounting as well as tax prep for a Client. I gave them notice in early Jan that I would not be able to continue providing the accounting services in 2025 (did not provide a reason but  this is a whole other story that involves business practices that I am not comfortable with). I filed an extension for 1040 with Sch C since they provided me with their other info last week. I got the return done yesterday...they are saying they do not understand and agree with the outcome of the return.

I have sent them details to support to the Sch C profit (it is not enough in their opinion). Even if they come back and say ok they agree with the numbers, I am thinking I need to cut them loose.

What would you do? Tell them to go find another tax preparer?

A number of years ago I had a client do some stupid things that cost them a lot of tax dollars without consulting with me before he committed the acts of stupidity.  I worked on the return and I called him up to tell him how bloody things were looking.  He got belligerent over the phone, but I kept my cool during the conversation.  Immediately after the call I typed a nice professional letter telling him to hit the road, put it in an envelope and dropped it off at the post office ------ all within minutes of ending the phone call.  I had never done that before and I have never done it since, but it was quite refreshing.  Life is too short and tax seasons too long to deal with difficult people.  Tell him "hit the road Jack".  Trust me, you will feel much better.

You are never really a successful, confident preparer until you have the ability to tell client to respectfully GO AWAY!
