I have married couple filing separate (due to income driven student loans), and they have 2 children. Each one claims a child on their return. However, Proseries is calculating the full child tax credit of $2000 for each child. Is there anywhere I should be entering the other spouse's income to determine if there is any decrease in the credit? I feel like I'm missing an input somewhere. Thank you
When MFS the CTC is still $2000 for each qualifying child you claim as a dependent. The only difference between MFJ, and MFS is the credit starts phasing out at $200,000 when MFS instead of $400,000 when MFJ
It's with the Form 2441 credit where MFS gets screwed. And EIC. And then they'll probably change the rules so that loan forgiveness is taken away, just as your clients become eligible.

Where do you see anything that says the credit is based on the Joint income when they are filing Separately?
Trust me that's what they are afraid of!
I thought the limit was $200,000 of combined income, which they are over. That is why I thought I had to give the spouse's income. It's late in the game, and I'm overthinking everything...even why I became an accountant lol.
Thank you for your reply!
Their combined income is over $200,000, that's why I was concerned that it would phase out. I guess it's $200,000 per taxpayer.
Thank you for taking the time to reply during this very busy time. I truly appreciate it.
