    Alabama Error Message

    nancy2

Hello.  I have an Alabama return that has been rejected for efile.  This is what the error message resolution says

    Error Resolution:
The Alabama Department of Revenue does not allow electronic filing of returns where
Form 40, Line 5b (Wages, salaries, tips, etc.) does not equal the total amounts of State
Wages in Box 16 from all copies of W-2. If your W-2 is blank in Boxes 15-17, you may
enter the Box 1 amount in Box 16 and re-transmit the return

So is this saying that I should add the W-2 amount to the state amount on the W-2 manually?  This is not a W-2 that was prepared by ProSeries.

Review your W2 entries, did the state boxes get left empty or do they have a different amount of state wages than Box 1 of the W2?

    Thank for you reply.

The box for state wages is blank.   It is a deferred compensation amount.  It's not even on the W-2 line for the federal return.

You have a W2 with nothing in Box 1 and only deferred comp in Box 11? I haven't seen this before.

That rejection message is saying it wants the amount in Box 1 to also be present in Box 16? for state wages, Im guessing the AL abbreviation is in the state box, so AL is expecting there to be an amount for state wages too.

OR you can get rid of the AL in the state section, but if you have that W2 marked to auto calculate at the top, it will keep inserting the state abbreviation in that box.
