How can I file an amended 2020 return electronically if I did not file the original return

Thank you!  I followed the instructions and the amended return is correct but when I go to efile it says the amended return is not ready because the federal return has to be electronically filed first.  I did mark the box on the on the information sheet saying that the federal return had been filed electronically so I must be missing something else.  Any thoughts?
