Single parent filing as Head of household. I took the Child care credit for $1349 of expenses. Software allowed the credit. Child was 14 on November 26, 2018. I thought the child had to be under the age of 13 for the credit. Is there something wrong with the software? or is there another set of facts available that I am missing?.

Question: If you knew it was under 13, why take the expenses? I know it does not negate your question tho. Im only curious.

I didn't at first. I entered the data for the child being 14, and the software is still allowing the credit, so I am wondering if there is another provision

There's a diagnostic warning you about this.

It's up to the preparer to apply the rules.  The software allows me to enter a million dollars worth of charitable contributions, that doesn't mean the taxpayer is entitled to them.

Make sure you are not indicating that the child is disabled.

You are correct. I deleted my incorrect answer. (Thought I did it before anyone saw, sort of a 5 second rule)
