Scheduler: I hate Scheduler. I want control over my system. I hate the Scheduler option window that pops up every time I turn on PS

Of course, Ashley said it's not a great idea, but to turn it off, from HomeBase> Update > Automatic Updates > Deactivate Scheduler

and never see that window again, I hope!

This is true, but keep in mind to any that may want to disable that, this is what controls ProSeries in ensuring you're always updated on the most current version (assuming you hit 'install' upon launch) and ensures you have the most current calculations and formsets.  (which is why i asked if Marc was certain he wanted to do this).

"ensuring you're always updated on the most current version"

But sometimes there are updates that cause total mayhem and should be avoided.  I like to control my own fate and I prefer updating when I think it is safe to go in the water.

Kinda like Windows, so that you would be notified but could choose whether to update or not.

Prior to a couple years ago, I dont seem to remember updates causing total mayhem.....Im sure there were a few but last year it seemed every update caused something else to break. That was unsettling.

This past season, it was always a good idea to check in here before you hit that update button.

I've always had my scheduler on unless otherwise directed not to. But I can see a point to be made not to. I do similar to Iphone upgrades. I wait a week or two before I upgrade. I've upgraded too fast before and have gotten burned for doing so.

The dilemma w/ manual updates is sometimes users submit efiles w/o ensuring they are up to date and do NOT do their due diligence, and then are submitting incorrect calcs/forms for filing.

I haven't seen the scheduler in years....I'll tell it when I'm ready to update or check for acknowledgements.

NOTE:  As a preparer you should ALWAYS do your due diligence ensuring everything is accurate for submission (End of the Ashley public service annoucement)

Good PSA, Ashley. I have a different way of ensuring software is correct but that is also a good argument for scheduling. To each is own, I guess.

I thought if you tried to e-file without being on the latest version it would not send the files?

Ashley, but sometimes we do our due diligence only to be stymied by the programmers lack of due diligence.

And the programmers are wonderful programmers, but who is responsible for the final product?  ME, so I want control.

Right, to each their own, just needed to put the PSA in for the specific reason of "it's ProSeries fault that i printed or efiled a return with an outdated calculation" know what i mean

But my thinking is along the same lines as the dusty guy, the software won't let you e-file without being the current version.  Please correct us if we are missing the boat with that belief.

For all intents and purposes YES it should not allow it, but never put all your anvils in one basket.....
