Are you receiving feedback from other MI CPA's about Pro Series discontinuing the software necessary to file the FTE payments on individual income tax returns. This software has been available in all previous years and apparently now there are no plans to upgrade the 2025 software. We should contact MICPA to contact Intuit and voice our concerns. This is putting all tax filers in a terrible position and selling an inferior product with no warning that this feature would not be present for 2025
Apparently we are to "Mail" these Michigan returns?
Are you talking about how line 30 of the MI-1040 still says "Not Supported"? I'm really confused by this, since the software worked for inputting the PTE credits last year. Is there any plan to fix this?
Yes I'm referring to the Sched 1 additions of Flow-Through taxes is not included in total and doesn't flow to page 1 of the MI1040. Also the MI1040 page 1 Line 30 credit doesn't include in the payments total. In 2024 we also attached the K-1's as support for the credit. Nothing is supported and mailing these returns is a big step backwards and a big disappointment in Pro Series after 40 years.
@JaneLee Thank you for being here on the Community! This unexpected behavior has been reported and development is researching for more information.
Also struggling with Michigan pass through entity calculations not being supported. Have done two returns so far, had to override add back and subtraction on Schedule 1 plus totals for each line, and also had to override credit line 30, Total refundable credits and payments line 34, Lines 36 you owe, Line 37 overpayment and override penalty calculation.
These overrides will cause returns to be paper filed if I am not mistaken. It's one thing for ProSeries to not support the line, it's a whole other issue for data entered to not be included in any calculations forward on the return.
Is this something ProSeries will fix in short order, or is this what is expected to remain in place for tax season?
Has there been any update on whether ProSeries will be modified so that MI taxpayers with FTE credits don't have to paper-file their returns?
What you see is what you get. There hasn't been any more information provided.
IntuitKatie - what are you hearing about the MI FTE entry issue?
We know how disruptive it is when things don’t work as expected. Since this community is designed for peer-to-peer resource sharing, our technical team doesn't monitor these threads for troubleshooting. We do need you to reach out to our support team directly, even if you’ve already shared the details here. Our support specialists need a formal ticket, a clear summary of the topic and a sanitized client case file to investigate the behavior you're seeing. They have the tools to determine if it’s a quick fix, a change in instructions, a new unexpected behavior or one we’re already reviewing.
Reporting it through the proper channel ensures your specific case gets documented and addressed by the people who can fix it.
Help us help you by heading over to ProSeries Support so we can take a closer look!
I did report the issue a couple of weeks ago. The person I spoke with indicated that Michigan form was not yet complete, but would be shortly. I was not given a formal ticket number, so based on your response it's unlikely that my issue was properly addressed. I do appreciate you letting us know we need to contact support again. It's frustrating for sure.
@IntuitKatie : Thanks for responding. Could you walk us through exactly what we need to do to get this issue addressed in a more elevated manner? I called in, was assigned a case numebr for the call in, and when I heard nothing back I called in again and was told the case had been closed with no discernable action taken. Here's the email I received before calling back to discover the case was closed:
It literally says not supported. That's ridiculous.
I just called into the support line, again. The support person said this is being looked into. I received a case number and investigation number (support said it is not a ticket number, but case and investigation). Thank you for letting us know to reach out to support.
If enough of us report this, insisting on a case number and investigation number, maybe they will atleast support the calculations in schedule 1 and the credit on MI1040. New Michigan form 6072 would also be nice to have, since it is now required by Michigan when filing a return with flow through entity credit. Not sure if this is something we could attach to the return if we need to manually complete.
@taxcouple There is no further action on your part. The support expert has added you to the report that was given to development. You will receive updates via email when there is one.
I hope you are able to get this straightened out - we have had many phone calls with ProSeries and they say it's the State of Michigan's fault, however other software providers are able to do this. You better figure it out soon or you will have a lot less customers next year!
Yeah, this is insane. Thankfully I only have a handful of Michigan clients, but I can't imagine any tax preparers in Michigan deciding to use ProSeries next year unless this is corrected.
At this point I'd be happy wih manually preparing 6072 and attaching it. Which is what we had to do in prior years as Michigan still required attachment with proof of credit!
Kinda sad that it has come to this.
Has this issue been resolved yet? This is a significant issue in preparing Michigan returns. How are we supposed to have clients get credit for these flow-through payments without completely overriding numbers and paper filing returns. This has been fine in prior years. I know we had to attach a form but at least it worked.
How do you call it unexpected behavior when it literally says right on the screen (Not Supported)?
How can we find out if this is even being considered for further updates? Atleast support total lines so we can file returns electronically? I am truly disappointed in the lack of action and communication from ProSeries/ Intuit on this issue. Zero follow up after contacting support.
There is a separate forum in MICPA group that is seeking information on necessary steps so that we can efile Michigan returns through ProSeries as well. Hopefully someone will get an answer soon.
I just got this email from Intuit. I'm amazed this is their response. They're just going to leave it broken and say it's "working as designed":
"The unexpected behavior you have experienced regarding MI-1040 Line 30 not being supported has been reported. After further review we have determined that this is working as designed and is the intended behavior. Unfortunately, this line will not be supported for Tax Year 2025."
In addition to the burden on tax preparers, it's hard to imagine that folks at MI Treasury are going to be thrilled to get a bunch of paper returns to process. This is not an acceptable response. Why can't they just let us override the affected lines and attach a pdf of the new form? I'm planning to contact the MICPA to see if they can work their channels at Treasury to perhaps generate further communication between Treasury & ProSeries to arrive at a better solution. Maybe if others keep raising this issue we will still have a chance at some progress.
It was moved from Line 29 for 2024 to Line 30 for 2025. It would take a programmer less than 5 minutes to fix this. Pathetic.
This is so easy to fix even a caveman could do it.
Below is Proseries "resolution" - I have two others but they all they say the same thing, not helping you this year. BTW tried to call State of MI, and their phones are no longer being answered, wonder why?
I have even tried submitting without conversion error checking and even that came back with errors. Careful if you still use the program for our paper-filed returns, double check estimate calculations, 2210 calcuations and all the subtotals where we have to override the FTE tax, refunds and credits.
We are on our own folks, Good Luck!
