Making a PDF file after trying to open a 2017 1040 form in 2020

I am getting replies that tell me I must uninstall and reinstall the 2017 product.  I am concerned that I might lose other client data.  Can someone help me go through this process?  I am not the best computer literate person although I CAN take instruction!  The darn customer file will NOT open until I update and I feel like I'm going in circles.  Client needs this 1040 as she is behind 2 years in her filings and her CPA wants a pdf to work from.

When you uninstall a tax year, the data file remains intact. But if you are concerned, you can always copy the 17data folder to another place on your pc and then uninstall.
