I submitted a return electronically using Proseries Basic to Federal and CA state. Federal was rejected but CA was accepted. I thought CA would also reject if the Fed did

What happens now if I resubmit the Federal return after correcting the issue. I had to remove a dependent since claimed by spouse.  thanks

CA doesn't catch those *duplicate* dependent issues, unfortunately.

Amending the F 540  is the only option.

You'll have to file a CA amended return to remove the dependent that the other parent claimed....is the other parent in CA too?  Im surprised that the CA didn't reject.

So if I have a bad EIN on a W2 the fed rejects and CA rejects along with it....but CA doesn't catch duplicate SSNs?  dumb!

I'm also surprised CA doesn't.  Wasn't sure if CA would reject later.  I had another similar return  but CA was rejected with the federal return.  Not sure how/why the other was rejected but this was accepted.  Thanks for the comments.
