    If you want your paid preparer to be your third party designee, check the 3rd Party Designee box on page 1 of Form 1040 and do not complete Schedule 6. Doesn't work.

    I updated my program today and it now prints with the box checked!!!!

    My 1040 Page 1 shows my name at the bottom with the 3rd party designee box checked.  I don't have any returns that contain Sch 6 to look at though.

    Yes, this was changed for this year. Preparer now has the box checked in preparer info at bottom. My understanding is if you wish someone other than the preparer to be able to be a 3rd party.

    check the box in part v of the fedl info wksht to designate preparer as third party designee
