Federal tax return was rejected because of form 1116, but doesn't need to be included with state's returns. I need to e-file just NJ & NY state returns

How do I e-file state only returns for NJ and NY after they were rejected because federal was rejected

Can't you fix the federal and resubmit?

I'm working on it, but states should not be rejected for the same reason

I know with CA, if I transmit the Fed and CA together and the fed rejects, CA will automatically reject as well...BUT CA can be filed alone without Fed.

some types of payment must be entered into the CA program as well (592 and 593 withholding are the first ones that come to mind).  They have to be entered in the Tax Payments worksheet on the Fed to get them to be picked up on Sch A, but the actual form and all of its details must be entered into the CA program for CA to pick them up.

I had a client with a 1099-K that had CA state withholding and CA wouldn't let that be Efiled either

Some states piggyback on the Fed, Im not familiar with NY or NJ...have you attempted to file them alone without Federal?  If they are piggyback states, they wont be able to be Efiled if the Fed cant be Efiled.

they are not listed as piggyback, it says in program help that they can be filed without federal
