I am trying to amend my client's 2020 personal tax return for full repayment of the Covid retirement distribution.
The IRS website says to use Form 9815-E. However this form only talks about repayments made before, not after filing of the 2020 tax return.
Form 8915-F says it is not to be used for 2020 tax returns.
Any suggestions on the best way to file the 1040X.
I appreciate any help offered
The Instructions seem to indicate that you still use those same lines (10 or 18) to report the repayment if you are doing it on an amended return.
E-filing a 1040X may be easiest, but in the event you do need to mail it, the 8915-E can be a stand-alone form.
Thank you for help.
I took your suggestion and am attempting to e-file, along with Form 8915-E and an explanation of why using that form (IRS website actually says to use it).
I will let post if it goes through and is accepted.
