Form 172 became available on 03/20/2025. Prior to this I had an error the form is needed. The error is gone, but From 172 doesn't show in the list of active forms or print with . I selected it from the forms list, and it is filled out.
Does the fact it does not print mean it isn't required to be submitted with the return? Does it have to be printed separately then attached to the return for e-file? Some box I need to check?
I've only had one of these so far, and it printed out with the Filing copy of the return at the very end of the printout.
Did Form 172 show an NOL? When it shows a positive number on line 24, it does not print.
yes, she has a large NOL so that may be why its included with mine.
I had the same situation. My client had an NOL carry-forward from the prior year but none to carryforward to 2025. Ever since February when I prepared the return, ProSeries was showing an error for Form 172 not being available.
On March 20, the error went away and no Form 172 appeared in the return. I researched the form instructions and could find nothing that indicated it was required when the NOL was being carried in from the prior year. It appears to be only required if there is a current year NOL to carry forward to 2025.
It appears that ProSeries was needlessly holding up e-filing, since once Form 172 became available in ProSeries, the error went away but no Form 172 was activated.
🤷🏽
Thanks all. So basically if nothing to be carried forward of back, form is not needed. One would think the form would say that on line 24, or Intuit would have a message in the review process especially since returns held up until the form was available.
