Extension

Is anyone else having issues filing extensions? There are two that I have filed that instantly reject upon transmission and say duplicate submission. Neither of these have been filed in my system previously or at all.

New clients?

Maybe the former Preparer filed extensions.

The more I know the more I don’t know.

I think there's only 2 options I can think of:

1. Extension was filed by the previous preparer

2. Someone filed using their tax ID. This could be fraud or an error in the IRS system. I encounter a similar issue with a trust return I file every year. I usually end up paper filing it with an explanation letter because the IRS has yet to resolve the issue.

This is not a new client. I have been doing their return for years.

I called Intuit and they said they see extensions in their system. The dates associated with those extensions are well before I filed them and I know the client has not done anything else.

If it kicks back immediately that means another Intuit Product filed the Extension, so TurboTax or another Pro using PS or ProConnect or Lacerte,  Intuit will kick it back before even sending it to IRS.
