    emailing password protected returns

is there an add-on program or a better way to email tax returns, without using the default password that ProSeries uses?

I have some clients that always just come in and get a paper return as opposed to trying to use the ProSeries default password.

After all these years, I'm looking for less angst & controversy in my world.

The vast majority of my returns are done with the client physically appearing on my door step, with a few by mail, and even fewer by e-mail.  I have always used Adobe Acrobat for password protecting --------- I have never put my full faith in Intuit doing that for me.

Have you tried using intuit link (portal) - you can print to PDF and upload it there and then they can print it. The security is the log on to the portal - not sending through email with a password. Either Intuits or a created one in Adobe.

Before I got a portal, I used Bullzip to password protect files, you choose the PW.

Since COVID I do most of my clients remotely, and I don't use email or Intuit to give copy of tax return to client. I believe IRS requires tax preparers to use double authentication.

I have been using Encyro Secure Messaging witch does have double authentication, and is very affordable, also it is easy to use.

I use Bullzip also, it has worked well for me. I do not send more tax returns than a handfull or two.

I agree with Terry that you should use a Portal.

The last I checked, both Encryo and Verifyle are good, affordable portals to send and receive information.

I have been using Verifyle for 2 or 3 years (was free through the State CPA Society as a benefit but that is over) so I paid for it this year. I like it, and I never would have predicted 5  years ago that I would be sending a decent amount of my clients their returns through a cloud portal. Verifyle also has electronic signing built in, so I get my 8879's signed that way when I send that along with the return to the client.

It probably wouldnt work for everyone, but it works for me.
