Delayed withdrawal date for tax payment

Hello,

Georgia (and many other states in the southeast) were granted an extension until May 1st for filing and payment of taxes due to Hurricane Helene.  When I put that date in for payments to be withdrawn Proseries gives me an error.  Is there a way to do this?

TIA.

I doubt if they will update the software in time to help so if you want to wait until then to pay, you probably will have to wait until then to file

I doubt it too.  This extension was announced long before the program came out.  So if I wait until after April 15 to actually schedule it, that should work?

Thanks.

After 4/15 you will likely only be able to schedule a "right now" payment.  The only disaster where the IRS changed the programming on this is when returns were due 7/15 during COVID.  There are dozens of disaster declarations every year (sometimes impacting entire states) but the IRS systems cannot automatically apply these extensions to scheduled payments.  They have gotten better at abating penalties when your zip code is in a disaster area but have done nothing to make the payment process more flexible.

I stay out of the tax payment processing business and stick to the tax return filing business.  Clients are free to make their tax payments however they deem appropriate (I generally encourage IRS Direct Pay but some folks still want to write checks, send certified mail, wheelbarrow full of pennies, etc.)

I see.  So would need to do it several days before the 1st likely, huh?  To make sure it goes by then.

Yes, I knew they couldn't really keep up with all of those.  This is a big one though.  I know the entire states of Georgia and Alabama are included and without looking it up I think there were several more entire states.  I get it though.

Thanks for the input!

This is timely.  There was an IRS news release earlier today:

The May 1, 2025, deadline applies to taxpayers affected by FEMA disaster declarations issued during 2024. These include:
