Buying 2026 ProSeries professional program again

I've been buying ProSeries Professional for a whole lot of years.   I have tried to call sales in Intuit and the bot resisted very strongly, but I finally got a human, with an absolutely unintelligible foreign accent.  Intuit does not want to talk with us about these things.

I see two options:

Pay $600 less and buy it now, and either pay it now or put off paying until February of next year.   I did that last year and discovered you have to pay it all at once; I couldn't make payments over the year.

Lose the $600 discount and buy the program next January.

I am a healthy, very active tax preparer who has an enormous, loyal clientelle and my 81st birthday is in June. Anything could happen between now and next January.   If I buy it now and I'm not doing taxes, not by my choice, next January, can the order be cancelled?   Or are my heirs on the hook for $10K for something nobody could use but me?

It used to be that you could cancel as long as you hadn't downloaded the program.  But with that said, I'm guessing your "heirs" would be in for quite a tussle trying to cancel something that has your name on it instead of theirs.  If I was in your shoes, I would either go to Walmart and buy a real good crystal ball or else hold off buying it until you are sure you are ready to roll.

On the assumption that you are purchasing as an individual, I think that commitment automatically ends with your death (e.g., state law) if that's the uncertainty that you're pondering.  You might inquire of an attorney on that one.

My suggestion is to remove your saved credit card from Intruit's records. Should something happen to any of us, if they have your credit card you will be renewed, you will be charged and someone else will have to fight to get your money back. That being said, I haven't removed my credit card yet - but I think I'll look into it (no pun intended).

Would you actually be buying it now?

At least in prior years, they haven't charged the credit card until the beginning of November.  Has that changed or are there other options to pay now for a larger discount?

I'm replying to myself because I know the answer now, in case anybody has the same question.  Sign up now and get the discount.   Defer payment to February.  Then if I'm not able to handle another tax season, call them, let them know I'm not going to download it, and the invoice goes away.
