Not a question, just a public service announcement. Just found out that the Arizona Property Tax Credit 140PTC has been printing all year without Social Security numbers on it. Since that form has to be mailed in, it's likely that any clients who had a 140PTC will not get their refunds. I called AZDOR and the nice lady I talked to said that without a social security number, it will be treated as if it was never filed. And since the property tax credit is not available if the retrun is filed late (if no extension), it needs to be corrected and mailed again by April 15 or these people will not get the credit this year.
So we are having to reprint and call all of our clients who have a 140PTC and have them come in again to mail the form. Proseries has been informed of the problem but who knows when it will get fixed or if they will send out any alerts.
Thanks for the notice. We have only one client who files this as a standalone. Their return was filed, without SSN, in mid-February. I just checked online and their refund was deposited directly on March 26. It's possible that the clients noticed the error and filled in the missing SSN, but I don't think I'll contact them to ask. You should check the status of your clients' refunds, before suggesting they file another return. And, if filed recently, they may still be in processing.
It wouldn't be difficult for AZDoR to find and fill out the missing SSN based on name, address and filing history. The "nice lady" you talked to probably works down the hall from the people who do this, but sits at a different table during coffee breaks.
Thanks for the response Bob. I did check wheres my refund and it seems two of my clients with PTC have had their refund processed without the SSN. I'd like to trust that the rest of them will as well, but maybe I'll leave it up to the client. I don't know if sending a second PTC form will hurt anything or just be trashed by the DOR. I'm assuming its better to be safe and send in the second one. By the time AZ gets it, the first one will be processed. We've already sent a few of them so I guess we will see what happens.
Won't hurt to put at the top "Duplicate With Missing SSN". If you have already notified clients of the error, the major harm has already passed.
I checked one client whose PTC was attached to a 140, and it had the SSN. This one was done in mid-March.
