What idiot put a 2019 calendar year check box on the 2018 Proseries 1040X worksheet?
When you check the 2018 box nothing pre-fills for the 2018 return you are amending - However if you check the 2019 box - the 2018 data pre-fills and the printed return says it is for 2019.
If you don't pay attention boy will you foul up you claim by telling the IRS you want to amend 2019 with 2018 numbers

not sure if this helps--opened a 2018 return--'file saved' as amendedXXXX1234--opened 1040x--put an X in 2018--nothing filled in-OK. entered a fictitious wage on a w-2 -- the 1040X filled in
in addition -- not 100% sure that 2018 is ready for amended returns just yet--have heard it is not fully functional right now due to the 'extenders legislation'
A few weeks ago the 1040X wouldnt work in 2018 unless you checked the 2019 checkbox....after last weeks update the 1040X started working correctly for 2018....have you updated?

You are correct, with the update the 2018 works like it should - if you check the 2018 box
My major gripe is that from 2006, the 1st year on the 1040X was the current year. Now for 2018 the 1st year is 2019 - made no sense especially when you had to check the 1st box (2019) to get the 2018 data
Before we noticed the change we amended a 2018 Colorado not noticing the 2019 box was checked, so Colorado did what we told them (in error) they amended the 2019 return using 2018 numbers.
Thank you for your input
I agree, I have no clue WHY they put the 2019 box on the 2018 1040X....At first I thought maybe it was just an on screen "typo", but I couldnt get the amended figures to flow properly unless I checked the 2019 box and then it printed with 2019 being checked which is no good! so I waited for another update before attempting any 2018 amended returns.
Ugh, that sucks about CO! What a hassle!
