California Taxpayers who claimed itemized deductions on their federal tax returns may need to verify the amounts reported on the Form 1099-G are correct by comparing amounts with the previous year tax return.
Important information from CA about Incorrect Form 1099-G:
FTB issues Form 1099-G to report certain government payments including state income tax refunds. The tax year 2024 Form 1099-Gs sent by FTB may contain incorrect amounts when an estimate transfer from the previous year has occurred. This means an estimate transfer from the previous year that was applied to the current year may not have been included in the 1099-G amount. This only affects taxpayers who claimed itemized deductions on their federal tax return. Tax professionals should verify that the amounts reported on the Form 1099-Gs are correct by comparing the amounts with the previous year tax return.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and will send an updated flash once the Form 1099-Gs are corrected and mailed. We anticipate corrected Form 1099-Gs will be mailed by the week of March 10 and will be viewable on MyFTB.
