Hi, if I just delete the return for which i purchased the credit (same return just missing rolled over information and all the info i subsequently entered into the other return), does the credit become available again or will i have to jump through hoops to get a refund? Suggestions welcome.

The credit should be tied to the SSN or EIN  of the return for the year. Copy the return Then roll the prior year return into the old returns name. You should get a warning about overwriting the information. This should not use a new credit, BUT if it does call support to get it reversed.  [Removed]

George is correct, credits are tracked by the SSN/EIN.  They are not used, however, until you either print the return or efile the return though.  So, if you have not printed or efiled the return, your credit has not been used.  You can have as many copies of a return as you want in the system.  The credit does not use until you take one of those two actions.  However, if you find that you need a refund you would need to submit a refund request here: https://accounts.intuit.com/app/oirr.
