Who's the genius that disabled printing - even of prior year returns until e-filing opens Jan 23?!?
I wanted to print something on a 2023 return, and printing - even for prior years - is disabled until 1/29 when e-file re-opens.
This is nuts! I want to have people review and approve things prior to e-filing so that in some cases I can e-file on 1/29.
I've also been using the 2023 returns to prepare Form 2553 to request S-Corp filing status. I can't even partial print that single form! That's silly because it takes IRS two months to approve one, and I want to fax a PDF in NOW!
This is forcing me either to create my own PDFs out of screenshots or use the IRS form with a form filler. More time wasted that Proconnect is supposed to save.
This should be fixed right away!
🤕🤯
I saw someone post recently that it could be an issue with whether or not your credit card has been charged yet. It sounds like once the current year charge is processed, the printing issue is solved.
Thanks. But it should say that. The pop up notice talks about IRS being closed and you can print once they re-open for e-file. This doesn't sound like a credit card issue – plus I did the form in tax year 2023 since it's not even available in 2024.
Sorry, I don't use ProConnect, I'm just repeating what someone posted. I have no way of personally verifying if there is any validity to the post. As far as printing prior year returns, Intuit doesn't like folks using their software if they are no longer customers, so if you don't have an active license, you are going to have problems printing prior years.
Got it. But the license is active, and Proconnect doesn't do what ProSeries does on prior years. You can do anything in any year as long as you're current. I am.
You can see that the dialog popup states they shut printing until e-filing opens. Dumb.
Intuit is smart enough to have the dialog box warn me that my license expired, I exceeded credits - whatever. But this message is ridiculous.
I'm posting here in the hope somebody at Intuit that follows this board sees it and agrees it's just slowing us down needlessly.
"I'm posting here in the hope somebody at Intuit that follows this board sees it and agrees it's just slowing us down needlessly."
People have been posting that for several days now, but evidently folks are still running into the issue.
I am having this issue too. I need to print a 2022 return. My subscription is current - they have billed my credit card. I have been told by customer service that because I don't have any specifically 2022 credits (even though my 2023, 2024 and 2025 credits are supposed to be good for prior years) I can't print a new return until Jan 12th. This is absolutely unacceptable!
Hi @KenGreenberg and @MusicMama Thank you both for posting in the community about not being able to print. Current year credits are not available for use at the moment. Printing will be available when billing has been processed for the current tax year and e-filing will be available once the IRS opens e-filing for the tax year.
I use ProSeries Pro, so don't know if you can print PDF's. When I print a return I always also print to PDF that way I can always print a return any time I need to even if I haven't paid for this years program
It is for new returns for prior years that are the issue. I can print all for previously filed returns. But I have just started a large catch-up project starting with 2022 and I can't print to pdf. Also, I'd like to be able to print a Form 2848 for a new client - I can't do that either.
For ProConnect Users that have 2023 and 2024 credits (unused returns already purchased) sitting in their banks, you can print 2023 and 2024 returns now respectively. 2023 credits will only work for Tax Year 2023. 2024 credits will only work for Tax Year 2024. If you do not have any credits remaining for those years or need an older year, those require the Tax Year 2025 credits to be used. Those credits are targeted for the week of January 12, 2026, to become active. Once they are active, printing will be enabled for all years.
If you are unsure if you have unused credits for 2023 and 2024, you can find out by going to the purchase screen. Click on the blue "Usage Details" link. Once inside you can select the tax year and it will show you how many individual and/or business returns that you purchased along with how many have been used.
Printing should have nothing to do with new billing. Right now, I'm trying to print a 2023 and 2024 return for a client. I have a few of these stragglers.
I already paid for the returns in that I have remaining credits.
Printing should have nothing to do with e-filing. Frankly, you should trust us on printing because none of us are mailing returns; they must all be e-filed so you'll get your money when e-filing opens.
I hate the idea of billing a client for two years of returns that he can't see for a month even when they're complete now. I also dislike waiting a month to get paid for the work, so I have to bill him and explain that Intuit won't let us print a return until e-filing opens. Since that restriction makes no sense to me, I doubt it will make any sense to you.
I should be able to print, but not e-file until you have payment.
Speaking of e-filing I'm not happy that Intuit cut off e-filing four days ahead of the IRS announced schedule!!! Since when does it take Intuit four days to send returns to IRS??? They usually move out in hours. That left me with a couple of 2022 holdouts who will now have to mail their returns. 😮
