Do I need to have my spouse sign the 1040 if I'm self preparing? This is the first year we're filing MFJ, so I've never dealt with this before.

If you are mailing a 1040, both of you need to sign.

I personally sign the 8879 as both taxpayer and ERO, and have my spouse sign the 8879, even though the return itself is marked self-prepared.
