Problem - truncated names - IRS need for name control parameters (1st 4 letters of surname) and the need for clients to see their complete name on CLIENT COPY for personal and financial institution reasons.
Solution: Create 2 name fields for each taxpayer as is done for businesses/other tax types
1. The client's complete legal name for both taxpayer, spouse and or surviving spouse
2. Have a separate name field that is just for eFILING that satisfies the IRS name control.
Both name fields would proforma over
As it is now - we keep hand notes on how to truncate each name. We give clients their copy before truncating, we truncate for eFILING, then we restore their names for proforma.
Thanks for the idea to create 2 name fields for each taxpayer as is done for businesses/other tax types that would proforma to the following year. We are changing the status to "Open for voting" since it is no longer considered "New".
