The IRS says that taxpayers are not supposed to transmit a 1040X when they are filing Superseded 1040s. However, Lacerte and ProSeries do force their users to prepare and file a 1040X when 3-filing a Superseded 1040. Basically, Intuit is using the language that we are filing a Superseded return, when in reality, we are filing an Amended Return. The idea is to bring Lacerte and ProSeries into agreement with what the IRS says to do when filing Superseded 1040s, and make it where we can e-file Superseded returns with the word "Superseded" at the top, and no 1040X.
Also, train your helpers who answer the phones on this. The person who helped me said she had been working for Lacerte for 3 years, but I would have thought she had only been working for Lacerte for 3 days, given how little she seemed to know about both Superseded returns and the other item that I asked her about.
