Client Submission Summary Report

Don_Delson

Clients need a way to confirm that the information they submitted was complete and correctly entered in the return -- without having to go on a scavenger hunt within the return (and then often fail).

Preparers need to a way to get clients to take ownership of the completeness and accuracy of the information they submit, especially when a CP2000 arrives.

The solution: a Client Submission Summary Report which clearly lists all the information provided by the client in a ordered and logical way.  This report might tie to the Federal Income Tax Summary line items but would include no tax calcs.

Initial versions would be read only reports with clients providing feedback via email or Intuit Link.  In later versions clients could review this report and even make changes which would update Lacerte, if accepted by the preparer (like an eOrg).

Most of this activity would take place before the return is prepared or before it is sent  to the client for review.  Getting the client to sign off on this (e.g. via Intuit Link) could be made mandatory by individual practices.

While noting in the software world is "easy", this can leverage elements (and certainly information) that already exists in Lacerte.  Could it be as simple as a custom report?

It also brings to mind an old saying that must never apply to tax preparation  -- Garbage in, Garbage out.

Enough said.
