Adding to the Export Function of Lacerte

Landon_Lott

I have been trying to use another software that provides more detail on next year's taxes and the best way to input into the other software is by exporting my Lacerte file to excel. When I began doing this, I noticed that some of the income fields on the tax return cannot be exported from excel. This includes Short-Term Capital Gain/Long-Term Capital Gain, qualified dividends, gross social security, etc. Can an enhancement to the export function be created to include at least all of the items included on the first few pages of a 1040, such as splitting up Capital Gains into short and long term rather than one line item for all capital gains?

I'll tag on this post with an idea for improvement of the instructions.

It seems confusing.  Balance, Series, prefix and Tax Code are not terms used in the depreciation input fields of Form 16.  So, I'm left wondering how cost, date placed in service, method and more information is input using the export function. If you know how to export, please share.

Here are the instructions:

  1. Six data columns should be created:
    • Column A = Account Number (starting with 1000 for 1st asset description so rows can be resorted)
    • Column B = Account Description (used primarily for the code 800 series description rows)
    • Column C = Current Year Balance (amounts, dates, 1=??? fields, method, and most other number amounts entered into the program)
    • Column D = Series (a unique identifying number for each screen - found at the bottom-left of the input sheets)
    • Column E = Prefix (number of the asset, 1 for the first, 2 for the second, 3 for the third, etc.)
    • Column F = Tax Code (as shown on the input sheets)
