CT 1065 / CT 1120S - NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL MARCH 18th!?!

CMund
Level 3

It seems that CT pass-through entity returns will not be available until March 18th?  The returns are due March 15th.  Never mind then engagements piling up already that cannot be finalized and invoiced.

What on earth is going on here?

Hello! Connecticut 1120S/1065 Form Products are currently experiencing longer than usual development times for Connecticut Partnership and S-Corporation tax. This is due to the implementation of significant changes to the state's tax laws affecting these entities. To avoid potential penalties, we recommend filing extensions at the state web page for Connecticut Partnership and S-Corporation returns. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause.

Is there anyone from Lacerte who can provide some information on this?  We have used Lacerte for over 30 years and I cannot recall anything like this ever happening.  A projected release date AFTER the filing deadline.

Maybe not with CT but it has happened before.

Make friends with extensions.

Any input on this situation?  Is it CT's 'issue'?

The passthru entity return in KY requires Form PTET-P this year, if you owe, to calculate penalty.  Form is applicable to Partnerships and S-Corps.  The state has told us the form MUST BE INCLUDED in all filings that owe.  Lacerte informed us this past Monday they have no intentions of generating this form for 2024.  So not just a CT issue.

The OP didn't ask about PTET; s/he asked about why the CT program for partnerships/S-Corps (pass thru entities - NOT PTET)  won't be ready until after the due date.

If you have questions/issues with KY - start a different thread.

The only CT entity form that is viewable is the extension form.  As a test, I tried to e-file the form CT-1065/CT-1120SI EXT for our own partnership and had this message along with a transmission error:

Failed transmission on February 13, 2025
Validation Failure: Error 54: Tax Year 2024 transmissions are not available.

Resolution: Lacerte is not ready to process Tax Year 2024 for this filing

So, at this juncture, filing the federal entity returns and extending CT (can easily calculate any balance due) is not possible through Lacerte.  Of course, we can paper file these returns but CT will not accept payment by manual check.  We can pay that on-line but need to further coordinate with each business client.

This is an unwelcomed mess and time sink.

I appreciate the response, really I do.  I know there was a change (not huge to be honest) and I know that there have been a few changes to the form.  What I want to know is why this is going to take until March 18th to release.  Will Lacerte at least have a functioning / fileable extension form by the filing deadline?

These are not huge year-over-year changes and leave us wondering if we can count on the Laceret development team and process as we eye potentially larger changes coming in the future.  It may be time after 30-plus years to move on from Lacerte to a more robust product like Pro System fx.

We just heard from a colleague that Pro Series (Intuit's cheaper product) just had these forms released.

I will withhold what's in my head in an effort to maintain decorum.

Actually, I would appreciate an answer to the following question:

Why does the "implementation of significant changes to the state's tax laws affecting these entities"  pose development difficulties that push the Lacerte timeline beyond the filing deadline while those same complexities have now been addressed in your cheaper product?

Here's the latest ProSeries post on this. I don't think CT is available yet.

Our state society has learned that CT just got the state to admit that they did not transmit necessary information to software providers until Monday of this week.

This is not a matter of complexity (I have seen the forms and know the changes - not big issues) it is a matter of state government incompetence.  I am still left with a poor image of Lacerte as they don't seem to be able to answer questions in an honest manner.

This issue is not programming complexity, it is a state's inability to provide information to them on a timely basis.

The 2024 issues with background updates and admin installations were not Windows 11 security issues (which caused many of us to burn dollars on IT time), those were Lacerte programming issues relative to 2024.  Be honest and transparent or it will come back to haunt you - I may be done with Lacerte after this season.

How can we file and extension when we don’t have access to the software?

0 Cheers

we need to have access to the forms so we can calculate the balance or refund for each client prior to filling the extensions.  In addition, in order to file the extensions, we need access to the software.  When can we download it??

You can run the calculations in Lacerte and look at the CT Tax summary for calculation of tax due. Go to the Forms tab then US on the top left then Tax Summary across the bottom and when you click on that you will see Connecticut Income Tax Summary on the left.

Of course this is all a major debacle with Lacerte basically telling us go to the free MyConnect website to file extensions even though we are paying (a lot) for software that should handle that.  We understand CT dropped the ball but to not be able to even file an extension seems odd.

CT DRS should immediately come out with an announcement to extend the deadline or at the very least announce no penalties.

The State of Florida does not require filing forms 1120S once you completed first year filing.. Consequently why S-Corps registered in Florida have to delay Federal filing that have nothing to do with Connecticut.

This delay that affects heavily other 49 States sounds like a childish excuse.

@carlosaldana Who said federal 1120S can't be efiled?

The more I know the more I don’t know.

Are we able to gain access to the CT forms on Proseries Professional?  So far I have not been able to download them.  Is there an issue filing other pass through returns in other states?  We are in a tristate area, CT, NY and MA.

I would like an answer as to when or if a functioning extension with auto payment will be available.

The planning and additional steps that I need to build into each engagement depend upon whether or not Lacerte can at least have that prior to the filing deadline.

You have already burned nearly your whole user base with weeks of misinformation about the new updating function and Windows 11 security causing many of us to waste time and actual money on needless IT time (your techs were providing wrong information literally up to the day you release a fix).  Please do not compound that by wasting our time again with opacity here.

Thanks for your answer.

I spent hours and hours trying to download business forms to file year 2024.

After 10 years or so paying Intuit for being a loyal customer, I am cognizant of how to download ProSeries various softwares. However, downloading 1120, 1120S and so on,is a mistery that affect my timing to attend my clients.

I am thinking about getting refund from Intuit and look for other software competitors.

Looking forward for an INTUIT PROSERIES responds that honor my concern.

For the record, Lacerte has labeled this the best answer.  It is duly noted and will be remembered for what it is - a middle finger to your customers.

@CMund

I posted my thoughts about them doing that .... then deleted it.

I was afraid they'd ban me; and since I have nothing *else* to do except provide 'free' customer service to Intuit's customers I deleted it.  /S

Was the March 18th form release date removed from the moderator's replies and now just says longer than usual? Or it is just me? Might be a good sign that they will be earlier than that. Or maybe later.

proseries user here. Not available yet, and we were told AFTER March 15th~~!!

Between this and the form 172 (for anyone with an NOL carried forward or generated in current year) being delayed until 3/6 is just making things difficult

Let's review Lacerte:

 - You lied to me for almost three weeks that we had a Windows 11 security issue and caused us needless costs with IT time

 - You still can't say if I will have a fileable extension for our CT pass-through entities by the due date

 - But you do flawlessly pepper me with alert messages about your stupid webinars that I have less than no interest in

Bang-up job boys.

Hi all, The ability to file CT-1065/CT-1120SI (composite) extension and CT-PET (pass-through entity) extension is planned to be available in Lacerte on 2/21/25. This date is tentative and we will keep this thread updated with any new information.

Today's release:

 - The forms are visible; not able to file but the new release date is March 11 rather than after the deadline - this is good

 - Extensions are still not able to be e-filed.  I was told that extensions would be able to e-filed with the ability to auto-pay balances due with this release - not good

After an uproar here in CT, the DRS has agreed to move the filing and extension deadline back to April 15 which is a relief.

Comically, DRS at first moved the full form filing deadline to April 15 but affirmatively maintained that the March 15 deadline for extensions would remain in place.  They received a sun flair response from the CPA community and changed their mind quickly.

I still want to be able to e-file the damned extension and pay the tax electronically Lacerte.
