Married separate to married joint on Lacerte

Hi all,

In all this time of doing returns, I have never had to do an amendment with married separate going to married joint.  I have the husbands return and have generated the entries based on his filing in the amendment portion of the program and then added her materials to the tax return.  Do I then just add the wife's tax obligations (there is a tiny amount of SE tax along with her normal tax obligation) and her withholding from her MFS return to the husbands amount on the amended info area and that's it or do I have to add all the other info from her original return to the husbands info in the amended portion in the program.  As always, thanks in advance!

Generally you add all new info for the wife into the original areas of the return (Screens 6-57), not on Screen 59 for the amendment. Screen 59 should only contain legacy info from the husband's original 1040 MFS, and you'd add in the explanation that they are amending from MFS to MFJ.
