@Kathi_at_Intuit @Ashley at Intuit (aka Henry Jr) @Intuit Katie @ANYONE Has this been reported? 1040 Screen 24, code 28 is not flowing, but 78 is on a joint return.

I do not see any reports on it. Let me see if I can duplicate it.

I'm on 39.037 & just tested one.  It's still taking the educator expense (in my case $ 75) even when I move it from TP to Spouse.

Just FYI for troubleshooting.

edit...

I just changed it to $ 500, & moved between TP & spouse and it's still working fine.  Federal return, with a CA NR.

It helps because I was not the only one who it was working for.

I entered the $250 on taxpayer line instead of spouse and it worked.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I am not able to duplicate it. I tested 2017 and 2018 I see $250 dollars appearing on line 23. See attached picture:

39.0307 Joint return, Taxpayer only. Seems to work for spouse, but not taxpayer
It works for Single taxpayer

Just swap the TP and SP.  IRS *loves* it when you do that! 😉

Same version as me and I tried all filing types and Taxpayer and Spouse, together and separate, it is still flowing. Let me see if someone else is able to duplicate it.

Maybe it is one of these causing it:

Note: Per 1040 form instructions for line 23, qualified educator expenses are reduced by the following:

Excludable U.S. series EE and I savings bond interest from Form 8815
Nontaxable qualified tuition program earnings or distributions
Any nontaxable distribution of Coverdell education savings account earnings
Any reimbursements that were not reported to you in box 1 of your Form W-2

That will teach me to use the same "dummy" client for too many answers. I had Coverdell distributions
Hopefully this will help @jhopper to diagnose their return.
Sorry for the extra exercise. Hopefully we lost a bit more weight doing this. I know I need to.
