There's no way to override that worksheet in ProConnect. The numbers on it should match what's shown on other forms on the tax return, since that's where the values come from.  - Rebecca

Hi there, I see what you mean on the 1040, that the program doesn't perfectly align the last name to the last name label on the form. However, the diagnostic about the name being truncated isn't related to how the name prints. That just indicates that the taxpayer's (and spouse's, if applicable) names contain enough characters that the program is going to have to shorten them in order to e-file successfully.  Follow the steps in the diagnostic to shorten the names as much as possible in the order listed. Typically the shortest combination possible would be entering only the taxpayer's first initial in the "First name" field.  This diagnostic won't stop you from e-filing. We just made it a critical diagnostic to give you a chance to shorten the name(s) as much as possible before e-filing instead of having the program cut off extra characters. That's because having a truncated name might slow the return's processing.  - Rebecca

Hi there, The program allows you to enter line 9 vehicle expenses a few different ways (either on Deductions > Depreciation, on Deductions > Vehicle/Emp. Bus. Expense [2106], or directly on the Sch C screen you can enter an adjustment).  The easiest way to track back how line 9 was calculated is to look at the form called Vehicle Exp. It will show the figures the program calculates. If that worksheet doesn't tie back to the total on line 9, pull up the Sch C on Check Return and click the blue box on line 9. It will show you all the various places you may have unintentionally made a double entry: You can click on any of the blue text in that popup to jump to the related input screen.  - Rebecca

Hi there, You can e-file the federal by going to the File Return screen and checking the box for Federal. If the program locked the return when you e-filed the NH BPT, just click the Return actions button at the top right, and press Unlock. Then you can e-file the Federal and any other states you need to. - Rebecca

Hi there, It sounds like you're getting this payload error because a DC nonresident without a business won't generate any DC returns. To e-file their federal (and any other states), just un-check the boxes on the File Return screen for "Dist of Columbia" and/or "Dist of Columbia UBT".  - Rebecca

Sure thing! Though I know it's not ideal, the only way to check if the diagnostic logic is correct in this instance would be to check the "Ignore" box on it and attempt to e-file. If the state accepts the return, let us know and we can get the diag updated to only trigger in instances where a negative actually prints on the 309 directly.  If the return is otherwise ready to go and signed off, you can e-file that way and see if it gets rejected. We unfortunately don't have an ETA yet on printing the 309, but if the e-filed return is rejected, you'd need to wait for that to paper file.

Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. Our team is working to get it resolved on an update. If you need to file immediately, you can check the box on Screen 1 for "Multi-State Return?".  This workaround should allow the PTE to calculate on the K120 until the update is available.

Hi there, Statements, unlike worksheets, are included in e-filed returns. So since having a negative number on form 309 Part 1 would cause a rejection, having a statement linked to form 309 part 1 with a negative amount included would usually cause the same e-file reject. - Rebecca

Hi there, For the 2106 to flow to the reservist line of the Sch 1: Make sure you have it linked to Form 0=2106 Enter the amount of travel expenses (or a 1 if entered in other fields on this screen) in Military Reservists - Net unreimbursed travel expenses included on this Form 2106 (1=all). Edit: Screenshots are a bit misleading as the Military Reservists field is further down the screen - scroll until you hit Vehicle Information. It's right above that header.

Hi there, It looks like we don't have a built-in statement for the R&D change of accounting method established in that revenue procedure. You can either prepare the statement separately and attach it as a PDF on the Electronic Filing screen; or go to Other > Elections and click the "Election" link at the top right to enter the info as an "Other" election. Most people prefer to draw up the statement separately in a word processor, since the Elections screen won't allow you to format the text.  - Rebecca
