2024 W2s and W3

Why can't I print the 2024 W2s and W3 files copies?  The W3 prints out as a 2023 form, and when I click "print" on the print reports screen, the program does nothing.  The screen behaves as if I did not click anything at all.

EasyAcct has not released 2024 W3 yet.

Is that why my program won't even act like I've hit the print button at all when I try to print file copies of the W2s as well?

We have spoken with their support team multiple times over the past two weeks.  We have well over 100 packages missing a W-3 because of this issue.  We have been told that the fix could happen "any day", while another support representative told us that there is no timetable for the fix.  Meanwhile, their workaround, using their related "Reporting System" would not work for us.  We called first thing this morning, only to find out they were closed for the holiday.  Our firm is NOT closed, and deadlines are approaching.  We are very frustrated.  If anyone has a suggestion for this issue, please reply and let me know.  Thanks so much.

While searching other threads of this same issue, I found a suggested solution, as seen below.  Kudos to the author.  This works.....so far.  What is frustrating is that we reached out Friday.  This was posted Thursday, to the Community.  Why couldn't we have been told about this when we were on the phone with their support folks Friday?

Hello, I've been informed this is projected to be addressed in the next EasyAcct update 2024.2.2. Thank you for your patience. Here's how you can check the version you are on: How to check your version of EasyACCT

In the meantime, here's a workaround:
1. Open your file explorer and search for the C:\IRS2024\PRT folder
2. Press the Shift key to select the following files

a. ef4us05a.gfl
b. ef4us05a.gti
c. ef4us05b.gfl
d. ef4us05b.gti

3. When these four files are highlighted, right-click and select Copy
4. Next, search for the C:\EASYW folder
5. Right-click and paste the files from above.

If you'd prefer to speak to an expert for this workaround, Contact Easy Acct for help.

What version of information return are you using? We are using 2024.2.01 and the 2024 W-3 is printing. If you are talking about the company copy, I always keep a copy of what I send the IRS as my copy not a file copy. We do all of our W-2's electronically, but I always keep a print copy encase something comes up.

When I called for help with this Friday, the first two representatives I got did not know what I was talking about and then we were disconnected. The third person (Ashley) was great help. This information may not have been communicated to all employees. (??)

I believe we are talking about EasyAcct which we use for many payroll clients.

Information Return System does have the correct W-3.

Two different programs.

We are on that version, but in the past, all we have used that for is 1099 production.  So, maybe only 5% of our Payroll Clients were also issuing 1099's.  And, when working with the customer support folks, they said we would have to load all the Payroll clients from Easy Acct to the Info Return System, and they concurred that based upon the time investment, it would be better to wait for the next update, which was hopefully "any day now".

Fast forward to my most previous reply, and I can confirm that the workaround one of the authors in another thread suggested is working perfectly.  Hopefully it has solved the problem, but we are keeping fingers and toes crossed.

Thanks, and take care.

Ok, sorry did not realize we were talking about EasyACCT, we usually just transfer all our clients to the information return system, so we can electronically file them. It takes less than a minute using the w2/1099 transfer tab in the EasyACCT utility tab. Also if you ever have to amend the W2's that information is already there.

No worries.  That's a great idea, and I will have our staff look into it for 2025.  Sometimes, we get so used to doing things the way we always have, and then something like this happens, and you get stuck with few options.  Thanks so much, and have a great day.

Someone suggested that I was not running the latest version of the software.  I am currently running 2024.2.01.  When I try to print the W-3 it prints with the 2024 figures on the 2023 form.  When you tell it to print it clearly states that the 2024 form is not available.  The W-2s are printing correctly.

That was me, I was asking which version you were using because you did not say in the original post, I printed it from the EasyACCT program and you are correct it prints the 2014 date. If you use the transfer button and put in the information return system program it prints correctly. It takes about a minute to transfer it over that program and it prints correctly there until they get the EasyACCT program fixed or you can copy the files over like someone early suggested. I have all my payroll/W2 reports done (except for the 5 that are over the SS limit) and I'm waiting on some after the fact payroll people and farmers to get their info to me.

Correct. This is what I did.

Printed W-2's from EasyACCT and printed the W-3 from IRS. Stupid work around, but it'll get the job done for now.
