Applying overpayment to next years estimated payments can be done on Screen 7.1. Enter 6 in Apply Overpayment to 20XX, and 1 in Estimate Options[O]. Multi-state returns need a separate entry in these fields for each state.

If an X is not appearing next to A for the Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit/Maine Sales Tax Credit section, there needs to be input on Screen 53.161 in the Property Tax Fairness Credit (Schedule PTFC) section. The “Completing Form 1040ME in accordance with Step 1, paragraph A of the Schedule PTFC Instructions (see F1 Help)” box needs to be checked and the relevant Property Tax and/or Rent paid amounts need to be entered.

If the Married Filing Separately status is used, both spouses must either itemize or use the standard deduction. "Must Itemize" can be checked on box on Screen 1 under Filing Status or Screen 25, Itemized Deductions (Schedule A), in the General Information "1=must itemize, 2=elect to itemize, 3=force standard deduction [O]" input field can be used.
