Setting up SurePrep to work in the hosted environment
- SurePrep is web-based and is used by logging into https://production.sureprep.com so you won't see any icons added once it has been installed. When the app is installed for the hosted environment, changes are made in the background to let it function.
- Lacerte SDK and ODBC are pre-installed on the Rightworks servers.
- SurePrep also downloads files, so settings need to be changed in SurePrep telling it what folder it should use.
- Before installing, use the red Logoff button on your remote desktop to sign out of the hosted environment, and have any other users in your firm for whom you're installing SurePrep sign out, too.
- If you are missing this icon, or can't get to it, right-click on the Start/Windows icon in the hosted environment, select Shut down or sign out, and choose Sign out.
- Users with the User (no catalog) role will need the Account Owner or someone with the Account Admin role to install apps for them.
Installing the SurePrep app
- Sign in to the Rightworks AppHub.
- Select My Apps.
- Go to the Cloud Apps tab.
- Scroll down to the Available Applications section and locate SurePrep.
- Select Install.
- The installation will begin, and when it's complete, you'll see SurePrep in the Installed Applications section.
- If you are the Account Owner or Account Admin and also want to install the new year for your other users:
- Select the Admin Controls.
- Go to the Users tab.
- Click on the name of the user to be taken to their Apps screen.
- Go to the Cloud Apps tab.
- Scroll down to the Available Applications section and locate SurePrep.
- Select Install.
- The installation will begin, and when it's complete, you'll see SurePrep in the Installed Applications section.
- Repeat to install for additional users as needed.
Telling SurePrep what folder to use
- In SurePrep, log in to the FileRoom.
- To the extreme right top of the window choose Admin from the dropdown.
- Select the Account Setup tab.
- On the Download Files Setup subtab in the Program File section, choose the pencil icon to edit and change the location to I:\SurePrep and select the green check to save.
- In the SurePrep Download Folder section, choose the pencil icon to edit and change to I:\SurePrep and select the green check to save.
SurePrep updates
SurePrep uses Lacerte SDK in the background to integrate with Lacerte. This is pre-installed on the hosted servers and gets updated by Rightworks.
There are two types of updates for SurePrep.
Larger, infrequent updates that need to be made to the servers get installed by Rightworks on the weekend after cooperative testing is completed by SurePrep and Rightworks.
Smaller updates are done by the user when prompted and use the SurePrep folder on the I:\ drive. When there is a problem with these updates, rename the I:\SurePrep folder so SurePrep can create a new one.
Troubleshooting
Make sure Lacerte and SurePrep are both opened in the Rightworks environment. If users open Lacerte on Rightworks and SurePrep on their local computer or vice versa, then the export won't function.
Error SPbinder has encountered an unexpected error while processing your request often occurs because the paths haven't been changed to the appropriate location for the hosted environment. See this section above.
If you are having a problem with a binder opening, check to see if it is happening with other binders to see if the issue is with that specific binder.
