Connecting to Intuit Hosting using a Mac

Creating a shortcut to access the hosted environment from a Mac

  1. On your Mac, go to the App Store.
  2. Search for Windows App and select Get.
    • mac OS 12.0 or later is required to use this app. You can find your currently installed version by going to the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen and choosing About This Mac.
  3. Choose Open once it's showing installed.
  4. Right-click on the Windows App icon in your Dock, then go to Options, and select Keep in Dock.
    • This will make it easier to quickly access the hosted environment.
  5. Choose the + add button in the upper right and select Add PC.
  6. Enter the login address to use in PC name.
    • If you already have access to the hosted environment from a Windows computer, you can check what is saved there. Right-click the shortcut on your Windows computer and select Edit, then note what's in the Computer field.
      • If you have Windows 11, you'll need to choose Show more options to see this choice.
      • If you use left-handed mouse settings, left-click.

  1. The Credentials dropdown can be left as Ask when required, but if you want it to store your login information choose Add User Account... and you will be prompted to enter your email address and password.
  2. Enter a Friendly name which gives the hosted environment a nickname of your choosing, like Rightworks or Lacerte or ProSeries.
  3. Make sure Reconnect if the connection is dropped is checked.
  4. Choose Add.

You can have a shortcut added to your Mac's desktop too if wanted by completing the following steps:

  1. Open Windows App.
    • Tip: Use ⌘ Command + Space to show the Spotlight search field, then search for ​Windows App​ (or you can search for it in the App Store).
    • After opening, you can right-click on the Windows App icon in your Dock, then go to Options, and select Keep in Dock to make it easier to locate in the future.
  2. Hover over the saved PC you want to make changes to and select the ...
  3. Choose Export, and then Browse.
  4. Browse to the desired location, then select Export.

Updating a pre-existing computer (changing your connection settings)

  1. Open Windows App.
    • Tip: Use ⌘ Command + Space to show the Spotlight search field, then search for ​Windows App​ (or you can search for it in the App Store).
    • After opening, you can right-click on the Windows App icon in your Dock, then go to Options, and select Keep in Dock to make it easier to locate in the future.
  2. Hover over the saved PC you want to make changes to and select the ...
  3. Choose Edit.
  4. Make any needed changes. Some common things you may wish to change include:
    • The PC Name can be corrected if needed.
    • A different Credentials choice can be chosen.
    • A Friendly name can be entered which gives the hosted environment a nickname of your choosing, like Rightworks or Lacerte or ProSeries.
    • Reconnect if the connection is dropped can be checked.
    • The Display tab also has some useful settings.
  5. Choose Save.

Setting up printing

  1. On the TerminalWorks TSPrint download page, choose your Mac OS X version from the Client dropdown.
    • You can find your currently installed version by going to the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen and choosing About This Mac.
  2. Choose Download Client.
  3. Under Mac OS Downloads, select TS Print.
    • If you get an message indicating that it cannot be opened, this is due to Mac default security settings, which prevent apps that didn't come from their store from installing. See this article which has you select your Mac version and advises you of the steps you could take to have your Mac open the TSPrintClient.pkg anyway.
  4. Make sure that TSPrint is running on the Mac by locating the TSPrint icon in the top icon bar.

    • If the icon is missing:
      1. Select on the Finder icon in the dock.
      2. In the Finder window, go to the Applications folder.
      3. Find the item for TSPrint Client and double-click on it.
      4. Once installed, you should see the TSPrint icon.

Setting up scanning

  1. On the TerminalWorks TSScan download page, choose your Mac OS X version from the Client dropdown.

  2. Choose Download Client.
  3. Under Mac OS Downloads, select TSScan.

Print window does not popup or hides behind the hosted environment

If it appears the window asking where to save didn't open, move your mouse to the top of your screen, select the printer icon, and then choose Restart TSPrint.

When printing using the Windows App on a Mac, the print window can appear to be missing because a setting is telling it to open behind the session. To change the related Mac setting and resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Use the red Logoff button on your remote desktop to sign out of the hosted environment.
  2. Open Windows App.
    • Tip: Use ⌘ Command + Space to show the Spotlight search field, then search for Windows App (or you can search for it in the App Store).
  3. Hover over the saved PC you use for the hosted environment and select the ...
  4. Choose Edit.
  5. Go to the Folders tab, and select Redirect folders to enable this feature.
  6. Choose the + add button in the bottom left corner.
  7. Within Finder, select Documents, choose the TSDataDrive folder, and then select Open.
    • If you have an older version of TSPrint installed, you may need to select a TSPrintDrive folder instead.
  8. Select Save.
  9. Go back into the hosted environment and test to make sure the issue is resolved.
