What to do when there is NO "Employers State ID #" is on W-2?

I have an Alabama resident with a W-2 that does not have anything in Boxes 15-17 (State, Employer ID #, State Wages, and Tax withheld)

Proseries is giving me an error message that Box 15 must have something in it in order to E-File Alabama.  (It will not allow me to use all Zeros.)

Any suggestions?

Another case of sloppy procedures by some payroll department.

If there is no id Number for the state enter the federal ID number and it will be okay.

In many states (not all) the federal and state id number is the same.

You could call the employer to request the state id number.

Some states (Indiana for example) will efile with all 9s entered for the id number  if the federal id number won't transmit as RCooley suggested.

Over the years I have filed several Indianna returns and put the federal ID number for the state and there has never been one that has been rejected by the state. There has not been any problem transmitting.

Thanks Richard.   Good to know.         I've always used 9's.  Now I have another option.

Thanks!  I've reached out to the client who is trying to contact the employer.

Alabama has it's own employer account numbers, but using the EIN is definitely an option!  Thanks for the suggestion.
