I am in the process of itemizing medical expenses that are over $4800 and I notice it is not crediting it to the return. Is there a reason for that?

Another reason may be due to the increase in standard deduction ($12,000 for single, $18,000 for head of household, $24,000 for married filing joint). The taxpayer may be taking the standard deduction instead of itemizing deductions on Schedule A because the standard deduction is higher.

You may want to review the Schedule A lines 1-4. There is a income limitation that comes into effect. Is the 4800 on line 4 of the Schedule A?
