Commissioner Stumbles Through Explanation of Amended Returns for Unemployment

I went back and watched what Commissioner Rettig said at the March 18 Ways and Means Committee hearing, when asked about amended returns for the unemployment exclusion.

You can find it at 49:00 into the video. Here is exactly what he said:

“One issue that we are looking at is our ability to distinguish in a husband-wife situation, two couples, we should be excluding automatically $10,400 rather than just $10,200 and the issue is were both unemployed or is it one person unemployed. We will get through that.”

No, I don’t know what he means either. I still suspect they can’t figure out what to do with community-property states.
