S Corp Form 8825 Income Tax Doesn't Transfer to State Tax Return

Glen

Federal 1120S Form 8825 Line 11 State Franchise or Income Taxes does not transfer to Illinois Form IL-1120-ST Line 16, as it should, so this amount has to be manually entered on the Illinois S corp tax return. The software programmers should fix this program error.

Proseries has  made a decision not to transfer the entire state tax deduction amount from the Federal return based on the instructions for Line 16 provided by Illinois.

The instructions declare, "You must add back any amount of Illinois Replacement
taxes and surcharge that you deducted on your U.S. Form 1120S to
arrive at your ordinary business income. You are not required to add
back taxes from other states taken as a federal deduction."

The user must transfer the deductible amount from the federal return to this line ensuring nondeductible Illinois Replacement taxes are not included.

ProSeries transfers the amount from the federal Form 1120S, Taxes and Licenses Smart Worksheet, Line A, (which feeds into Form 1120S, Line 12) to the IL-1120-ST, Line 16. To be consistent, ProSeries should also transfer the Form 8825, Taxes Smart Worksheet, Line A (which feeds into Form 8825, Line 11) to the IL-1120-ST, Line 16. This is a programming deficiency and should be addressed.
