ProSeries Filing Instructions - Online payment options

steve5

Can ProSeries have the standard letter filing instructions print out online payment instructions instead of just the ones to use payment coupons?  The IRS is so slow to process payments made by check, clients are getting notices.

I tried doing this last year by modifying the letter, but it printed them out on every tax return so of course I got the question from clients "but I don't owe anything"....

There must be some special code in the standard letter to do this but those aren't the easiest things to modify.

I don't know if they'll update this because you do have the option to modify the letter yourself.  (But I did give it a vote.)

Every year I take the time to go through the entire letter and modify it.  To do what you are asking, I just add a couple sentences where it talks about the payment vouchers.  That way it will only print if they have a balance due.  For example:

[@FDIEFCheck]
Please file Form 1040-V and a check or money order in the amount of $<@FDIEFCheck>, payable to "United States Treasury". Write "<@FDICurYear> <@FDIForm>" and your social security number on the check. This is due <@FDIEFVch>. If you prefer, you can pay online at www.irs.gov/payments. If you choose to pay online, be sure to select the option for Balance Due.
[@FDIEFCheck]

[@FDIEstAddr1]
Include a separate check or money order for each payment payable to the "United States Treasury". If you prefer, you can pay online at www.irs.gov/payments. If you choose to pay online, be sure to select the option for Estimated Payment. Otherwise, write your social security number and "<@FDINxtYear> Form 1040-ES" on each check. Mail your check and the appropriate Form 1040-ES voucher to:
[@FDIEstAddr1]

I hope that helps.
