S Corp Charitable Contributions Errors

I have a client that donated a vehicle worth FMV  to a charity and I got an error on Form 8283.  I called customer support indicated I need to upload a PDF Form 1098-C in order to remove the error or uncheck the error validation when submitting the return.    Amazing advice.   I exclaimed that for a $500 donation or less, a Form 1098-C is not required but Intuit still requires it to eliminate the error.   They will not change or correct the error.   So much for a professional product when the software establishes their standard and does not follow IRS guidelines and provide no flexibility for CPA to do it the right thing.

Who is Intuit protecting?   All they have been doing is making our job more challenging.

Form 8283 is not required for donations of $500 or less.  See Form 1120-S instructions, Page 31.  "If the deduction claimed for noncash contributions exceeds $500, complete Form 8283 and attach it to Form 1120-S."  When an 8283 is required, "If you donate a qualified vehicle with a claimed value of more than $500, you cannot claim a deduction unless you attach to Form 8283 a copy of the contemporaneous written acknowledgment you received from the donee organization. The donee organization may use Copy B of Form 1098-C as the acknowledgment."
