stimulus payment

Taxpayer was 18 in 2019, in high school and dependent of his dad, therefore neither received the stimulus payments.  For 2020, taxpayer is no longer a dependent of his dad, has wages.  Is he eligible to receive the 1200 and 600 payments for stimulus?

Did he pay for more than half of his own support?

If youre confident that he no longer qualifies as a dependent, then he is entitled to both of them, yes.

How much income does the kid have? Is he in college fulltime?

No, he still lived at home, so value of that would make the answer no.  When his information is entered on form for tax program it says he is eligible, thus the confusion.

He is not in college at all, just worked 7 months last year.  Probably made 6000 (still waiting on W2)

The form can't think on it's own.  It's up to you to enter the information.  There are a couple of boxes on the information worksheet asking if the person could be claimed as a dependent by someone else and if he was claimed by someone else.  Try answering those boxes correctly and see what happens.

I did go back and change the form, that he could be claimed but he is not.  The stimulus form does not come up then.

Thank you.
